Amelia sat on the sofa in the living room, her legs curled up underneath her, with a cup of tea in one hand and a bunch of old pictures strewn around her. Amelia had kept a lot of pictures of Callum and her from when they had first met in an old shoe box. She really needed to get a scrapbook but truthfully she had saved them for years even after they had parted ways. Since reuniting and now being engaged recent picture had been added significantly to the pile.
She gazed affectionately at a picture of them in a little row boat on a lake, then another of them dancing in the vacated street in a small village in France. They had done a lot together in the short time they had been together, then and at the present moment. Her mobile rang suddenly and she answered it, talking with her mother on the other end, “Yes mum, we will be there for brunch this weekend. Yes mother I am sure that Callum can come this time. Alright mum, love you to, goodbye,” and with that she hung up the phone and set it on the table. Amelia sighed knowing she would have to tell Callum tonight. Reveal to him that she had not in fact told her parents or any of her family for that matter of their engagement or upcoming marriage. She had hoped that maybe he wouldn’t be too angry with her. She chewed on her bottom lip as she thought about it. Maybe she could spring it on him right before they opened the door to her parents’ home, that way he wouldn’t have a change to argue with her about it. That was a really ingenious idea she thought, smiling to herself.

Callum slipped through the front door surprisingly quietly for once (maybe that stealth training was finally paying off?) and began to shrug his coat off when he heard Amelia's voice filtering through the ajar living room door which stopped him in his tracks. Huh, it seemed she was calling her mum. He did wonder if this was something he should be listening to. He automatically assumed mother-daughter talks after engagements were probably wedding-focused and he didn't want to hear anything he shouldn't. He was distracted from this moral dilemma as she mentioned brunch though. 'Wait, I can 'come this time'?! But she's never mentioned brunch invitations before, I would have remembered that. I don't have plans on a weekend why would she imply that I did but don't this weekend? Hang on, Amelia said she had to go to some thing the other weekend and she was very vague about it.' And that's when the penny dropped, or almost anyway - hey, he wasn't the sharpest tool in the box, it sometimes took him a while to get there, but he reckoned Amelia's evasiveness about her whereabouts last weekend (around brunchtime funnily enough) and her tentativeness to go ahead with discussing wedding details with her parents like he'd suggested suddenly made sense.
Creeping back over to the front door he opened and closed it, this time making sure it slammed as it usually would when he came home. "Honey, I'm homeeeeeee," Callum called out cheerfully, all part of the 'hey I just arrived home' act of course, as he strode into the living room where he found her curled up on the sofa surrounded by photographs. As he sat down beside her he aimlessly picked up one of them and was taken aback to see himself dancing across some random cobbled street in Paris. "Oh god, I can't believe you kept this one," he made a show of groaning at the photographs, looking down as Amelia wandered into shot and then proceeded to do a slightly wobbly, probably drunken, can-can beside him. "We look so young. But the dancing hasn't really improved," he commented teasingly before leaning over for a hello kiss from her. He planned to address the whole concealing-invitations-to-brunch-with-the-inlaws-and-saying-I-couldn't-come issue in time, catch her off guard... or else corner her with a cleverly disguised ruse. Let's be honest, it was Callum, 'ruse' was perhaps the wrong word for how it would actually turn out.
((ooc: Had to, I couldn't resist haha!))
