Name: Martin Michael Moss
Nicknames: He'd like it if at least one person called him "Moss the Boss"... though "Marty" is okay too.
Age: 26
Blood: Muggleborn
Appearance: Marty is short. He might make it up to 5'7" on a good day, but most of his closest friends and coworkers still seem to tower over him. He's not a vain man, and his clothes usually look as if he's slept in them (and he probably has). Martin has a nice smile and would be considered good-looking with just a bit more confidence about him.
Personality: As a weapons consultant for the Auror Department, Marty is constantly working with stuff that's way more badass than he is. He's sort of shy, but endlessly excitable when it comes to his various projects. However, his constant over-thinking makes him perpetually paranoid and generally suspicious of others. Martin tends to get wrapped up in his projects at the expense of staying in touch with the world around him. He's very sweet and well-meaning but a little naive.
Marty is easily bored by things outside of his expertise. He knows what he knows but he's pretty clueless about everything else: pop culture, history, politics, the current location of his keys? Martin's got nothing. However, when he's involved in a project, he devotes himself to it wholeheartedly. Get him talking on a subject he's passionate about, and chances are he'll never shut up.
Background: The only child of a pair of physicists, Marty has accumulated a lifetime of science knowledge. He was privately educated as a child, and his parents constantly pressured him to excel at everything he did.
When his magical abilities were revealed at the age of eleven, Mr. and Mrs. Moss were skeptical and distraught, but when they saw what Martin could do with their own eyes... forget about it. He was sent to Hogwarts at once (Ravenclaw, thank you very much), and his parents were so thrilled to have an "exceptional" child that they've been experimenting on Marty's powers ever since, curious to find an explanation for his abilities and discover the limits of his magic. He was sheltered and overprotected as a teen. His only escape came from robotics competitions and Dungeons & Dragons games (he's a Dungeon Master, fyi). As such, Marty developed a slightly obsessive love for magical weaponry.
Marty's parents divorced when he was fifteen, the long hours and professional competition between the two finally driving them apart. He stayed with his dad in Oxford while his mother left to work for CERN. Martin lived with his father until he was 22, and while he has a decent relationship with his parents, it's difficult for him to avoid feeling like he's living in their rather roomy shadows.
After graduation, Martin took a job as a filing clerk at the Ministry of Magic, but was asked to interview with the Auror Department after constructing robots with magical components that essentially did his boring work for him. They were particularly intrigued by a bot that brutally fought its way to the coffee pot each morning while Marty slept peacefully at his desk. He currently uses his expertise for general weapons consultation -- poisons, hexed swords, and so on -- but his pet project lies in creating adapted unmanned vehicles using Muggle and wizard technology, so Aurors need not put themselves in unnecessary danger.
Characteristics: Working with robotics and computer repair since his early teens has gifted Marty with some excellent fine motor skills and manual dexterity. If you need someone to draw up painstakingly detailed blueprints, fix the tiniest watch or roll the perfect spliff, Marty's the guy to call. He also (secretly) loves to knit, and his closest friends often find themselves with intricately complicated patterned socks as Christmas gifts.
Other:
Marty's signature dance move is, naturally, The Robot.
