Ryan smiled down at Emilie as she turned around to face him, bending his head so as to kiss her back, before he nodded, "Not a bad day, training was muddy, wet, bruising... the same as always," he explained lightly before retracting his hands from her waist as she moved away from him.
His brow furrowed immediately in confusion as he saw the Quidditch magazine she held up and he found himself go oddly still as she became angry. He'd never seen her even lose her temper before. "What?! That wasn't supposed to be announced until the last game of the season this weekend!" he said, wide-eyed and pretty darn well irritated that the Tornadoes had lied when they assured him they'd keep the whole story under wraps until the very end. His eyes trailed to the magazine with the intention to find out exactly how his exit had been reported, before his gaze snapped back to his wife as she became more shrill. He sighed softly, "I didn't know how to tell you," he admitted quietly, in a guilty mumble, as he looked down at the floor, "I kept meaning to and then putting it off. I don't know why. I've sort of ran out of time anyway, Sunday will be my last match," Ryan told her, tentatively raising his eyeline to meet hers again.
"Hey look, it's gonna be okay with the Tornadoes though. We're parting amicably, they're moving someone up from the second team to replace me but they said the team will always welcome me back in the future, if I ever want to play pro-Quidditch again. They've been really understanding," he explained quietly and levelly, hoping by keeping his manner calm that it would rub off on her and stop her from getting too angry at him.

"You didnt know how to tell me? I suppose 'Hey Em, Im giving up my job, so lets cut down on eating for the next few months! Did you...have you...what about Adam?! Did he EVER cross your mind when you were thinking 'flip it, I dont need a job!?!" Emilie's eyes were wide, her hands hanging limply by her side as she shook her head as he admitted that Sunday was his last match.
"You dont get to make these decisions without me. When we married, that was the moment when you had to start sharing your decisions. I gave up the bookshop because I got pregnant, but we discussed it! I shouldnt have to find out from Ella, who's found out from that trash there! I suggest you go phone up your boss and tell him you werent thinking straight, you've decided to come back because a life of poverty isnt a life your wife wants for your child" Emilie crossed her arms, tears in her eyes as she felt terrible at being angry at Ryan, but angry she was.

Ryan's guilty expression only deepened as Emilie spoke and he hung his head in shame, knowing he should have just told her, at least it would have avoided a confrontation like this. "Don't be ridiculous, we don't need to cut down on eating. Besides, I got a nice chunk a couple of weeks ago for doing that sponsorship thing last month so we're pretty set for a while now," he pointed out - there wasn't a big deal of money in the playing of Quidditch itself, it was the sponsorship deals, interviews and such that came out of playing for a famous team which was where the money in the sport actually was. "Of course Adam crossed my bloody mind!" he exclaimed defensively, wide eyed in shock that she'd seriously think he'd made such an important decision rashly without thinking of his son, "He's my bloody son, it's for him I'm doing this!" he argued, his voice's pitch becoming a good octave higher as he became incredulous.
"I know, I know, believe me, I know I should have told you. Lesson learnt. Now can we move on to the part where I explain?" he asked with a sigh. "We're not going to live a life of poverty, Em. I have another job lined up," Ryan started quietly, looking steadily at her, "Hogwarts needs a flying coach, starting September. It's teaching a few lessons a week, then I'd need to be in charge of Quidditch refereeing and stuff relating to the Quidditch House Cup, and general like staff supervision commitments up at the castle. But it means I'll have weekends off, apart from when there's a match, no more early morning or late night training sessions. We'll have plenty of money to support us, I have quite a lot from playing Quidditch from the last year or so and this is a regular wage."
Crossing over to stand closer to her he continued, "Look, I know you're angry with me but I did this because I wanted to be a better dad, because I hate having to play part-time parent when we've got a big match coming up or we're playing internationally. I want to be here more for you and Adam, I can't miss him growing up. I wouldn't dream of choosing pro-Quidditch over my family, that's why I did it. I'll have so much more time off this way and I won't be away so much." Tentatively he took her hands in his own and smiled sadly, "I even thought we could think about buying a house in Hogsmeade, if you'd like? That way Hogwarts would be a walk away and I could be home even more. There's this really nice house that I think would be perfect for us, it's just gone on the market, and it has a garden and 3 bedrooms and a huge kitchen/diner. Old but it's fine, it's stable, warm and pretty big. I don't know, I'm probably getting too far ahead of myself but I just... I thought this could be good for us," he concluded.

Emilie's eyes narrowed at her husband, "You gave up your job for our son? Im sure he'll love that....when he's starving to death because the money's ran out!" Emilie barked sarcastically, her breathing deep and heavy as she tried to stop herself from crying, her mind going into overdrive as she tried to work out a solution to this huge mess.
"Explain what exactly? Hmm?" she began before hearing him mentioning another job, her eyes meeting his as she tried to figure out if he was telling her the truth or just covering his ass to placate her. Her eyes filled with tears as she listened to the new job, it was absolutely perfect, they could have more family time together, he could see Adam more often and it was still doing what he loved. His hands taking hers were the final straw and Emilie burst into noisy sobs, her hands holding his tightly as she tried to listen to his plans for a new house, one where he'd be around even more. "Ry....Ryan....thats...per...perfect" she managed to stutter out, before moving to hug her husband hard, guilt overwhelming her as she had practically accused him of not caring about her or their son. "Sorry, Im so sorry. Im a horrible wife...I was...so scared" she managed to explain before the tears took over, yet again, her face burying into his chest as she tried to calm herself down.
(ooc. Well...I took forever.)

Ryan knew thanks to Emilie’s angry sarcasm, her tears barely being restrained in her glistening eyes, that he’d made the wrong decision in deciding to keep the new job offer a surprise to announce one night over dinner. In hindsight, he realised how worried she’d obviously been, thinking he’d gave up a steady income and a job he loved on a mere whim. When she finally burst into tears he dropped her hands he held to instead wrap his arms around her tightly, “No, I am so sorry, I didn’t mean to worry you like this! I didn’t realise you thought I was quitting just for the sake of it. Maybe I shouldn’t have kept it quiet, eh?” he admitted quietly, repentantly as he inched away from her enough to smile bashfully at her, clearly embarrassed that he’d genuinely thought it would be a good thing to keep as a surprise for his wife.
“Sometimes I don’t think things through, how they must look to people who aren’t… well… who aren’t me. I’m sorry, I honestly thought it was a great opportunity and I’m actually really excited about it but in all that I sort of put off telling you because I wasn’t sure what you’d think. I mean, for one, you’ll have to put up with me being around the house a hell of a lot more,” he joked lightly, smiling hopefully and really hoping that she’d stop crying. Crying girls, unsurprisingly, were his weakness – he was just very bad at comforting. “You’re a wonderful wife, you put up with me when I do stuff like this without telling you,” he assured her in a quiet whisper in her ear as her head was buried in his chest, slight sobs shaking her frame as he wrapped his arms tighter around her body, “Look, from now on, no more surprises… I’ll tell you everything. I mean I do anyway, pretty much, but yeah… full disclosure which is slightly worrying, I’m not sure you’ll appreciate some of my more random ideas but hey, you chose to marry me, it’s part of that package unfortunately.”
Releasing her only slightly he looked anxious, “So uh… on a scale of one to ten, how much does Ella hate me right now for condemning my wife and child to a life of starvation and poverty? I’m assuming she was the one who found out about me leaving pro-Quidditch…?”
((ooc: Better late than never! Would you still like to do some kind of Binnsy scene with Will panicking at how incapable he is as a new dad and Daisy trying subtly to check up on him all the time?))

Sniffing up at him as he apologised, Emilie swallowed the lump in her throat and gave a small giggle as he joked with her, "You probably should have told me....at some point before Ella hit panic stations" she smiled at him, hugging her arms around his waist and smiling into the hug.
"You at home more? Im sure I can cope with that, I might even find some chores for you..."she tailed off before shaking her head, "I dont mind surprises, but make sure they cant be misconstrued like this was. You're so silly...god I love you" she smiled, a huge weight easing from her shoulders as the calm in her life was restored. They wouldnt have to live in poverty, their son was going to be fine.
"She's probably upstairs packing mine & Adam's things so we dont have to live in poverty, you're on your own buster!" Emilie laughed as she looked up at her husband before nodding her head to his question.
"This new place, it has more bedrooms....is that for a playmate for Adam?" she asked in a small voice, a rather naughty look in her eye as she blushed slightly at the rather rude thoughts she'd suddenly had.
