Name: Grace Summer Cohen
Nicknames: Cohen, G Co, Gracie, Graceface
Blood: Pure
Age: 22
Year: Graduated
Appearance: Svelte, lithe Grace stands at 5’7, most notable for her long tan legs, slender figure, and piercing green eyes. Her brown hair falls in messy waves, and is now cut in layers the longest layers brushing her shoulders. Her hair has been died so often for a while everyone forgot she was actually a brunette. Being a hairdresser and with the help of magic has its advantages, her hair is still just as healthy and shiny as if she never dyed her hair. Her style is alternative; punk-rocker girl meets vintage chic. She likes the colour black and favors edgy pieces with a sense of femininity. Her complexion is clear, and she has delicate angular features, arching eyebrows, and wide almond shaped pale-jade green eyes which are flanked by thick lashes accented with heavy eyeliner and mascara generally making a defined cat-eye or smokey eye makeup.
Personality: Her snarky attitude and gift for one-liners has given her a reputation for being moody, icy, and mysterious, which in pretty much every way isn’t at all far from the truth. Depicted as a rebellious utterly reckless- with no sense of boundaries or rule abiding- wild child, however Grace isn’t as dangerous or as much of a bad girl as some make her out to be. Her intimidating façade is more for shock and awe, though she does have far too much pride to turn down a dare.
Underneath the dry sarcasm, glib, and constant string of subtle insults (she has made subtlety into an art form) she is a very kind and thoughtful person. A generous heart is perhaps one of her better qualities. Her natural distrust for others gives her a rather standoffish if not impressive quality about her from her apparent intellect and wit. It may appear as though she doesn’t need anyone, Grace is fiercely independent, but in fact she relies heavily on her friendships as if they were family. The friendships she makes she makes for life until you cross her. Forgiveness is foreign to her; being burned too many times will do that to a person. She can hold a grudge for what seems like eternity, and is extremely stubborn in this regard. She is a very strong person and can take a lot of abuse, as she has done in the past, and even though she will never tell someone they have hurt her either with actions or words that doesn’t make her pain any less. This makes her a tad cynical, but she there with a comforting word for others when it really counts.
Adventurous, spontaneity is her middle name, but she is calculating over something important. She doesn’t like being tied down and can become restless if she has too much monotony in her life. Perhaps it’s because she never felt fully secure in her life, and has never really known her ‘path,’ but is vaguely starting to figure that out. Rule breaker is a word that comes to mind when her hunger for spontaneity is coupled with her fearlessness. Born to stand out, in a way, growing up as the black sheep of the family made her rather free-spirited and rebellious, she can be a lot of fun.
Blunt, brash, she is constantly straightforward about everything, and can be a little harsh. She isn’t afraid of dishing out a little tough love. The first to stick up for someone, she is unfalteringly loyal but has a fierce temper and can hold a grudge forever. Luckily she is very slow to anger, and is quite passive; instead she prefers to bottle her feelings until they explode.
Background: The daughter of Kirsten Watson and Sandy Cohen, her father and she were quite close before his early onset of Alzheimer’s. Grace lived a relatively happy childhood in Scotland with her brother and sister (Joshua 27, and Marissa, 19). Her mother Kirsten was a straight-laced, uptight real-estate agent, while her father was a musician, a pianist. Kirsten was always disapproving of the choices Grace made in life. The only thing good she ever did was being sorted into Slytherin, since Kirsten’s family comes from a very old very long line of Slytherin’s. Grace graduated with fairly good grades and managed to become a prefect, but most figured she got it purely out of her talent for intimidation the Head of the Slytherin house liked her initiative at the time.
As a family of entirely posh Purebloods Grace never fit in, her older brother was a Dragon Tamer, and worked in Bulgaria but has now returned to Green Mountain Dragon Sanctuary to help train other Dragon Tamers. Her sister Marissa the popular teacher’s pet, works as a code breaker at Gringotts. As far as Kirsten was concerned she had only raised one screw-up which she frequently liked to remind Grace of her disapproval at any opportunity.
For Grace everything good was always followed by something terrible, and nothing ever stayed ‘good’ for long. Her relationships with people particularly fell into this category. Bad luck has seemed to follow her from a young age. When she realized she liked boys and girls, her first ever girlfriend…or at least the first girl she had ever kissed Natalie moved away when she was 15. At 16 she pretty much knew who she was, but she was still in denial. Finally she had a wonderful boyfriend she thought would stay with her forever, but at 16 everything seems like forever. He cheated on her, and she learned what heartbreak really felt like. At 17 Grace had gone on a party rampage, she was the rebellious teen and she had decided she was going to show everyone she couldn’t get hurt. She had also begun dabbling in drugs and smoking as much spliff as she could get. It was fun shedding all her inhibitions, until she got date raped by one of the older boys in her year. Grace told no one, she just reverted into her shell and became very angry, and cynical.
After graduation Grace dabbled in a variety of jobs. For a while she closed herself off to relationships of pretty much every kind, a recluse in her work, piling on job after job, until she started getting burned out and ended up having a meaningless one night stand with a tattoo artist girl she’d met at a bar. She arrived an hour late to her first job of the day the next morning and was fired. Grace proceeded to go through a few ups and downs, all of which nearly made her mother want to disown her. After a year and a half Grace fell in love with a girl, and she fell hard for Simone Mathis, a beautiful artist. Being with Simone somehow helped Grace to heal, though she still never told anyone, not even Simone what had happened to her. As soon as everything became good and Grace thought that maybe this time it would last, Simone cheated on her. Once again heartbroken it was this time that Grace left to Australia to live with her grandparents. While there she flitted around from job to job. The one that stuck for the longest was a lifeguard; Grace had always loved the water, swimming and surfing. There was something peaceful about being under water. In Australia she met Tyler Davis, and as the story goes boy meets girl, girl falls for boy, then boy abandons girl for a London-based job at the Ministry of Magic. A part of Grace admittedly returned to Hogwarts in the hopes of following Tyler, but when she got there he had already moved on to a perky blonde.
Tragedy and bad luck tend to follow Grace. After coming out to her parents that she was bisexual her mother Kirsten yelled at her, it was the worst fight they had ever experienced. After the fight they were estranged for a year. When grace was 21, a year ago, her mother and she were still on shaky terms when Kirsten was recently killed in a car accident. Her father’s failing health significantly worsened after his wife’s death. Sometimes when Grace visits her father doesn’t even know who she is and it has been difficult for Grace to reconcile all her guilt, since she may never get approval from her father, and will never from her mother. The one thing that has appeared stable, and ‘good’ are her friendships and her relationship with her now girlfriend Samantha Robbins, although a small part of her is just waiting for the chaos to rise and knock it all away. Amongst her menagerie of jobs Grace became a bartender at a hip club in Diagon Alley called the O’Connors part time and works as a hairdresser at a posh salon Tint, in Hogsmeade.
Characteristics: An enigma wrapped in a mystery, most find her jarring, and can be difficult. Not many ever feel as though they truly know her, she tends to stray away from personal topics and whenever the subjects turns on her, especially if such subject are deep or sensitive for her she quickly changes the subjects or cunningly turns it on the other person. Harsh and insensitive have been words used to describe her, but she has her caring moments (when she says she is going soft); underneath she is a sweetheart with a surprisingly sensitive and caring soul. Meaning she can be easily hurt but is able to mask her feelings well, most of the time.
Her sense of humour is sarcastic, glib and sometimes dark in nature but she can easily joke about anything, and has a difficult time being serious or proper, but knows when to keep her mouth shut, not that she always will mind you. A bored look or cold shoulder is often given to strangers.
She loves surfing, swimming, snowboarding and abseiling. Grace is not a team player, although she used to play Chaser for her Slytherin Quidditch team in school. She was a great Chaser, but otherwise she doesn’t enjoy needing to rely on others to win a match. When she was younger she played tennis and golf with her parents. She hated golf and found it utterly boring. She still likes tennis, having the ability to hit something as hard as she can without any unwanted ramifications is very therapeutic. An observant individual she enjoys learning about people, languages, and cultures. Her favourite lessons were Potions, Charms, Transfiguration, and DADA, and have found all of them useful at one point or another.
She has various tattoos: 1 her most recent tattoo this sparrow is on her right hip near her bikini bone, 2 on her left side, 3 on her right side, and her first ever tattoo was a small star on the inside of her left wrist.
Other: Grace is bisexual; she is attracted to both men and women equally. When it comes to lovers she can be flippant and restless. Long term relationships tend to end in disaster and so for the past few years (before Samantha) she tried to avoid them, which never really worked too well. When she fell in love she fell fast and hard and her relationships were often intense and relatively short lived. Now she tends to be slower to warm to anything serious, cautious of getting hurt again. However she is still an all or nothing kind of girl. When she figures out that she does love someone, it is a deep, unbreakable the kind of love stories are written about. Sadly for Grace every person she has inevitably fallen madly in love with has somehow betrayed or hurt her. Currently she is dating Sam Robbins who is the definition of awesome, and beautiful all rolled into one.
