Name: Ned Alexander McAvoy
Nicknames: Ned, The Pie Guy, Adorkable
Age: 34 (15th March 1979)
Blood: Half blood
Appearance: Above all, Ned is tall (6'4"), that's the first thing people notice, along with his unassuming, pleasant nature. In terms of looks, he's pretty average looking with short brown hair - the kind you want to ruffle up if you could reach it that is - and gray-blue eyes. However he is one of those people in possession of a frequent killer smile that's so adorable and genuine that it never fails to work to his advantage. Odd though it may sound, his eyebrows are probably his most defining characteristic after his smile- they're just so thick and obvious and the word 'catepillar' admittedly does spring to mind. Some people might say Ned is a tad on the lanky and scrawny side though that's mostly because of his height- he does have alright-enough toned muscles though he's nothing remarkable since he's no athlete by any means! (Unless running around with a fake lightsaber and pretending he's a Jedi counts as athletics?)
When it comes to clothing Ned dresses very simply with jeans, t-shirt and Cons being the combo he constantly adopts unless it's a special occasion in which case he doesn't begrudge wearing a suit that he looks rather debonair in, when scrubbed up a bit. But mostly he's comfortable in his own skin and so wears whatever the hell he feels like plus, more often than not, an apron covers it up anyway when he's working in his shop baking desserts and such.
Personality: Adorably shy, very mellow and a tad OCD are the first things that come to mind when anyone thinks of Ned McAvoy and indeed they are very true. Obsessively clean, he's a bit picky like that, and has always been a bit of a geek. Despite this he's always felt comfortable in his own skin, just not necessarily around people he doesn't know very well! Ned's smart, in terms of academics certainly, and he has an uncanny knack for remembering almost everything he's ever read in his life. His social skills are lacking, he has a few good friends and tends to keep himself to himself, avoiding socialising with new people whenever possible (the weird exception being that he loves to chit chat to people who eat in his dessert shop/cafe). One thing is for certain, Ned truly has a heart of gold and is willing to help anyone and everyone that needs him. His sense of humour, while decidedly sunny, has its utterly morbid moments and he admittedly finds the oddest things amusing while everyone else is staring at him as though he's gone crazy. (Which is quite possible when it comes to Ned.) Meanwhile, actually morbid, depressing things are seen in a mellow, 'Que Sera Sera' kind of way by Ned- he tries not to be too affected by tragedies in his life, instead choosing to bottle up all that emotion behind a huge smile.
Background: Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Ned had a rather lovely Scottish accent but over the years it became peppered with very 'posh' English, having spent several years living in Southern England (especially when living near his fiancée's family) since graduation. He's the first of five children born to Kelvin McAvoy (muggle) and Anna McKenzie (witch) meaning he has three younger brothers Brody (28), Ducan (26) and Hamish (21) and a younger, beloved sister Heather (24). As far as family life went he had a pleasant upbringing forming close-knit relationships with all his relatives. However as much as he would have loved to keep himself to himself, and sit quietly on his own, his siblings didn't allow it and at home he was often persuaded to join in with their mischief-making.
When he arrived at Hogwarts he was sorted very quickly, and unsurprisingly, into Ravenclaw- home of the geeks! He thrived at Hogwarts, constantly working and studying to achieve the very best grades he could- he would never settle for falling short of his goal or achieving second-best. Because of this he still, to this day, has a fantastic work ethic and if you ask Ned to do something you can guarantee he will do it to the very best standard. Hogwarts was made significantly more interesting with the arrival of a cute transfer student at the start of fifth year, Anna Tyler- a bubbly, quirky girl who immediately plonked herself down next to him at breakfast, declared herself his new best friend and never left his side after that. Unsurprisingly they became very close friends before moving effortlessly into dating at the start of sixth year, never looking back after that. Indeed they were so inseparable that they continued dating after graduation and moved into a house together a couple of years after leaving Hogwarts.
High-school sweethearts, the next step seemed natural, so they were due to be married a few years ago (26th March their would-be wedding day!). However, typical of life, a tragic car accident the night before the 'big day' left Ned fiancée-less, heartbroken and with a huge period of mourning in front of him rather than the happy days as man and wife everyone, including himself, had vividly imagined. With the help of his family, his younger sister in particular, he got through this admittedly 'dark period' in his life though on the one year anniversary of Anna's death Ned took off, leaving the country, his family and friends, with no notice or explanation whatsoever- it explained itself really- though he did continue brief correspondence with Heather. He'd then been living quietly in America but a year later, 2 years since Anna's death, he decided to return home to his family and friends and his beloved shop in Hogsmeade.
Characteristics: Ned cannot lie to save his own life and the give-away eye twitch is obvious when he attempts to deceive someone. When an uncomfortable topic comes up he's known to completely change the subject, his best get-out-card being "heeeey who wants desserts? who doesn't love pie?!". Being the owner of a rather successful shop/restaurant (called 'Just Desserts') in Hogsmeade that sells pies, cakes, chocolates etc., it's only natural that such a thing should be his excuse to change the subject. He's a very good baker, having made the majority of the sweet things sold in his shop (though he also has loyal staff, obviously, who else would he have left the shop?!)- before he buggered off without notice that is!
Other: Being a bit of a geek he's sort of always wanted to be a jedi (you could say it was a life ambition) but he'll settle for wizard because, you know, that's pretty damn cool too.
