Name: Sarah Jane Watson
Nicknames: Known as 'Watson' at work, often raises eyebrows at those who try and give her a nickname or those who say "Elementary my dear Watson" in some kind of pathetic attempt at humour.
Age: 28 (30th July 1983)
Blood: pureblood
Appearance: Sarah stands fairly tall at 5'9" with a toned, athletic build and, as she is not blessed with the curves some women have, she tends to dress appropriately, making excellent use of what she does have. Sleek blonde hair frames her face, resting just past her shoulders when loose and shining blue eyes are accentuated by thin, perfectly plucked eyebrows and naturally thick eyelashes. Her skin is unblemished and toned and of a pale creamy complexion, completing the look. She wears make-up though on a regular day it is very minimal, used to enhance rather than cover up anything, so mascara, eye-shadow and lip gloss are her usual staple items. In terms of dress, Sarah tends to be very able to adapt to any situations as an Auror where she needs to alter her physical appearance, somehow 'working' most clothing styles. At work she tends to favour, when not made to wear Auror robes, crisp suit trousers with a blouse and suit jacket to finish. It doesn't help those lacking in the height department that Sarah also tends to wear heels virtually all the time, adding a good couple of inches to her already tall 5'9".
Personality: Sarah is aloof, distant and very professional to the point of seeming constantly serious about her job- which is probably mostly true. In truth Sarah's learnt the price of not being guarded enough and as such she very rarely puts her entire trust in anyone and/or lets anyone get to know her further than basic details, especially those people she works with. Her sense of humour, while seemingly non-existent, is mostly cynical and sarcastic which fits with her slightly proud, mocking nature that seems to radiate from her on first meeting. She nearly always comes across as proud, to the point of arrogance, but this isn't true, Sarah is just very controlled and harsh on herself- she doesn't like showing weaknesses and if it can at all be helped, she doesn't like forming attachments to people, especially Aurors because she knows their work means most of them will end up dead! Unsurprisingly given her occupation and school house, Sarah is smart, in the sense of intelligence, and she was one of those people bullies would often describe as 'swots'. While at school she was always the first one to raise her hand in any given class and recite a near perfect answer to everything- her work as an Auror is no different and she knows almost every procedure or tactical plan in the history of the department. One thing that Sarah has developed over the years is her manipulation skills, particularly when focused towards men and she's become quite the expert at being a flirt to get her own way, ready to use all her womanly wiles and wit if she needs to to get something done.
Background: Sarah lived a very happy, normal childhood in a loving and stable family with a younger sister, Ava. The letter from Hogwarts duly arrived on her 11th birthday and with a sense of excitement and wonder, she entered the school, being sorted immediately- the Sorting Hat had barely touched her head before making its decision- into Ravenclaw. It was in this house that she flourished with a natural love for academia and a bit of a guilty pleasure in the form of books- she filled every spare moment with reading anything and everything she could get her hands on. As such she quickly became very knowledgeable about the wizarding world and impressed her teachers very easily, earning the good natured nickname 'the Walking, Talking Encyclopaedia' by some of her friends and 'the freaky nerd' by some of her not-friends. Throughout her years of schooling she was firmly in the top of her classes, her favourites being Defence Against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration, though she stuck with the subjects she found more tricky too, such as Potions. To her classmates she was very confident, sure of her knowledge and self, and very ambitious with a very clear goal- to join the Auror department- though at the same time had a kind of sweetness and friendly nature that those who spent any time with her immediately became aware of. Being a favourite with her peers and teachers alike, Sarah became a Ravenclaw Prefect in fifth year and afterwards, Head Girl, a position she loved and felt honoured to receive. She graduated in 2001 with straight O's and was accepted onto the Auror training program with no quarrels.
It was after graduation that Sarah's seemingly perfect life began to unravel. She began her training and there she met Tom, an admittedly rather shy geeky guy, who worked for the Auror department on the research and theory side of things, as opposed to being out there 'in the field'. There was an instant spark and the two of them hit it off immediately, becoming near inseparable after a few months. When Sarah's training was complete they threw her straight away into an important surveillance mission- the target a group of suspected Deatheaters- along with Tom whose knowledge of gadgetry and spells would help to gather more information about the group. What was supposed to be a safe, surveillance mission soon went horribly wrong when one of the group they had been watching cornered Sarah and Tom and captured them, mere moments after they had spontaneously married and were on the verge of consummating said union. They were attacked and tortured by means of the Cruciatus Curse- Sarah managing to just about survive because of her stubborn spirit- but they drove Tom insane before killing him in front of her. It is this event which made Sarah appreciate how a simple mission could endanger her and those associated with her, and after the Ministry sent a team in to rescue her and bring her back in, she closed herself off emotionally from most of the people around her. Above all she wanted revenge for what the group had done to Tom but, sensing this, the Ministry restricted her to protection and surveillance missions, not trusting her to stick to her duty of merely bringing in suspected Deatheaters if she had the opportunity to corner and kill them.
Still, Sarah does her job with flair and has become quite adept in the art of persuasion and flirtation, both of which making her the ideal person to talk to contacts and witnesses relating to any threats to the Wizarding World. It could be said that Sarah's parents and her sister are the one thing that's remained constant throughout her slightly rocky life. The Watson parents live close by the Ministry, in London, and as such she's often found with her 'baby sister' Ava visiting them- if there's one thing the Watsons do it's family.
Characteristics: Sarah, due to her rocky past involving Tom in particular, has a lot of hidden aggression and as such she practices kickboxing, boxing and tae kwon do very regularly and it would definitely be a mistake to cross her when she's in that kind of violent mood.
Other: Despite not seeming like an animal-kind of person, Sarah owns a rather aloof, proud tuxedo cat (that rarely warms up to anyone new admittedly) called Darcy. Yes named after a certain proud character from Pride and Prejudice- her favourite novel.
Very few people know of her and Tom's 'situation' (both physically and maritally) in the moment they were captured as she left any mention of it out of her field report, has never revealed it to the many therapists the Ministry made her talk to, and doesn't want to make anyone else feel pity for her. It also doesn't help that she also blames herself for being so distracted on a mission and, by extension, blames herself entirely for Tom's death.
